Exit West by Moshin Hamed follows Saeed and Nadia, two young lover in a country on the brink of civil war, as they navigate through tumultuous times. Soon mysterious doors begin to pop up leading people around the world. Exit West focuses on immigration and refugees, two hot-topic issues, but puts an entirely different mystical and imaginative spin on it. I liked this book, but I didn't love it. The writing is excellent but almost entire in prose so it can be a little tedious. I liked the story but if I'm being completely honest, it wasn't the most exciting book I've read.
Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng follows the controversial adoption of a child in a picture perfect town and two families, not directly involved, but affected nonetheless. This book seems to be promoted everywhere and for a good reason! I really liked it, it was completely my style where you don't seem to know the whole story until the very end. I loved the look into all the different relationships and all the intricacies between each of the characters.
One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus tells the story of 5 students who meet in detention, and the mystery that surrounds one of their deaths. I picked up this book because I was in the mood for an easy read and this one was described with "The Breakfast Club meets Pretty Little Liars". This is a classic chic flick in book form, you know where you get sucked in only to be like "omg, what did I just spend my entire day reading" when it's over. The book was super unrealistic, but I have to admit I was intrigued the entire time and really wanted to figure out how it would end. So, not the next great American novel, but a good read if you're looking for something easy.
