6 Places To Look For Prom Dresses

If your high school is anything like my high school, girls have already begun their searches for the perfect prom dress. Many schools, mine included, have facebook groups where everyone posts pictures and info so no one ends up #twinning. So yeah, there can be a bit of pressure to find a gorgeous and unique prom dress. Today I'm going to share a list of few places you can look for prom dresses with all different types of budgets and styles in mind!

  • Lulu's - If you're looking for something affordable, Lulu's is the place to go. With most styles under $100 (a steal for a prom dress), you'll be sure to find something in your budget. They have tons of different styles from unique cutouts to bright prints.
  • Prom Girl - This is the classic site for prom dresses! PromGirl actually carries other brands, but the site is great because it makes it much easier to compare styles, price points, and looks between brands.
  • Windsor - Many sites seem to carry very similar styles, but everything at Windsor seems very unique. They're big on satin and sparkles, but don't worry there's something for everyone.
  • Camille La Vie - This site has a much more boutique-y feel which I love, but it does come with a higher price tag. The dresses are all arranged in color, which is awesome because many girls already have a color in mind but don't know the exact style/fit, so this site makes it super easy to shop.
  • Sherri Hill - Sherri Hill may be the most well known prom dress line. They're dresses are stunning, but are definitely a little pricey. You can't purchase anything online, but many department stores will carry them. Also, you can often find these dresses on crazy big sales at discount bridal/dress shops, so it's worth taking a look.
  • Unique Vintage - If you're looking for something super unique and retro, check out Unique Vintage. This site puts a modern spin on tons of classic styles and you'll be sure to stand out in a crowd.
A big tip if you're going to try on dresses, bring heels! Even if they're not the ones you'll actually be wearing, wearing heels changes your posture and it's nice to envision how it might actually look!

So here you go, 6 awesome places to find prom dresses. I actually found mine at Lord & Taylor (another great place to check out), but I don't love their website and thought that had hundreds more dresses in person. As always, let me know of any other great places you know, I'm sure everyone would love some more suggestions!

7 Single Halloween Costumes

Dressing up for Halloween with friends is tons of fun, but sometimes dealing with other people can be really frustrating. So today I wanted to put together a list of cute/funny/adorable/scary costumes for you to rock solo this Halloween.

  • The Toothfairy - The Toothfairy is an underrated childhood hero. She literally gave us money for just growing up. Wear a white tee, silver tutu, tiara, and of course carry a tooth wand! (They're super easy to make with a little felt + glitter, or can be bought from Etsy).
  • Rosie the Riveter - One of the biggest cultural icons of World War II, Rosie the Riveter inspired (and continues to inspire) women everywhere and helped promote the feminist movement. Pair a denim shirt, a red bandana (complete with the 1940s hair do) and a "We Can Do It" pin. Don't forget to show off your costume (and you're hard work at the gym) with the classic muscle picture.
  • Frosty the Snowman - Who says winter can't come a little early? This one's super easy, tape 3 cardboard cutout buttons down the front of a white dress. Add a red scarf and a cutout top hat and you're ready to go.
  • Cruella De Ville - The evilest of all Disney villains (she kills puppies), Cruella De Ville's costume is actually surprisingly simple to put together. Pair a black dress with a white fur coat or shawl (bonus if it is spotted), red gloves, and a long cigarette type thing.
  • Wednesday Addams - I've actually never seen The Addams Family, but I am actually obsessed with Wednesday's outfit. Wear a long sleeve collard shirt underneath a black dress. Add black boots, black lipstick, and 2 braids to complete the look.
  • Flo From Progressive - Flo is iconic for anyone who watched television. Wear an apron with the word Progressive taped on, a white shirt, white pants, a blue headband, and of course a Flo name tag.
  • Breakfast At Tiffany's - I know that this costume may be a little overdone, but it's so chic. Pair a black dress, classic pearls, large sunglasses, a top knot, and a small tiara.

Ok, so these are some of my ideas for the perfect individual Halloween costume. Whatever you end up wearing, make sure to tag us in iInstagram pictures for a chance to be featured! Also don't forget to comment down below any other ideas you have!

ThredUP

I was recently binge watching Fall Haul youtube videos, and I came across a few that featured the online store ThredUP. I had never heard about it before, but the concept sounded awesome so I decided to check it out. So far, I've had a really great experience so I thought I would share it all with you guys!

Ok, so ThredUP is an online consignment and thrift store (awesome I know, all the steals with none of the hassle) featuring high end brands at amazing prices. ThredUP carries everything from Kate Spade to Madewell to Anthropologie to even a few lower end stores like Forever 21. The best part is that everything is on MAJOR sale. You're able to see the actual price and then the price that you're paying for the item. And in case you were wondering, by major sale I mean that I bought a $70 pullover for $15 and another $137 sweater for $38. So yeah, that's pretty awesome.

My biggest fear going in to this was that I thought there had to be a reason these items were being sold at such low prices. Technically, ThredUP is only supposed to accept pieces that are 'new with tags attached" or "like new", but I was still a little skeptical. When you click on an item to add it to your cart, it lets you know anything that's wrong with it. For one of my sweaters, it said "minor pilling", but when I opened my package (that has bright blue polka dots on it) I honestly could not tell which one was had the pilling, they were all in amazing condition. I'm not saying that no one will ever have a problem with any of the items from this site, but so far I've gotten quite a few things and I haven't experienced any issues.

You can also send in some of your clothes that are still in amazing condition, but I haven't had a chance to try that yet. I'll keep you guys posted when I do.

I just want to make sure this is 100% clear, this post was not sponsored whatsoever, I honestly just really love this site and think it's amazing way to buy clothes at a fraction of the cost. Let me know if you've ever tried ThredUP and what your thoughts are!

XOXO,

Samantha
