Hey guys!
Doing yoga in the A.M. has been scientifically proven to help energize and boost your mood. Some even say that yoga is like a caffeine alternative, and while I don’t drink coffee and can’t vouch for this myself, I can understand why people would say that. This post has my top 6 stretches I like to do in mornings right when I wake up. These are all super easy to do. And don’t worry it doesn’t take long and you def won’t have to wake up too much earlier in order to do this. So I guess I’ll just get into it….
- The Full Body Stretch - Ok so I like to start off reallllllly easy. I just lie on the floor next to my bed with my legs and arms out and stretch out my entire body. This is so easy to do and really energizing.
- Child’s Pose - For this one, kneel on the floor and slowly roll down until your body is on your thighs/the ground. I keep my palms face up on the floor and take a few deep inhales before rolling back up.
- Arm Stretch - This is one I made up, grab onto something about hip height. Your bed would work nicely. Then just bend down so your your legs are straight and your arms are straight. Your arms should be parallel to the floor and your arms/back should be perpendicular to the bed. This is a perfect stretch for your back/arms. You should make a square with the bed, the floor, your arms and then your legs.
- Downward Dog - This is a super easy and very well known stretch. All you have to do is put your hands on the ground and walk them out until you look like triangle. You’re booty should be up in the air and your hands should be a little wider than your shoulders.
- Rag Doll/Forward Bend - Again a very easy one. Place your feet underneath your hips and just bend down at the waist. Your neck and head should be very relaxed and limp. For a deeper stretch in your hamstrings I grab onto my ankles and pull my head in close to my knees.
- Backwards Stretch - This is a very good stretch for your back. Just stand up with your feet hip shoulder width apart with your hands interlocked above your head. Lean backwards by pushing your hips forward. Hold this for 5 seconds breathing deeply and then stand back up straight. Repeat this 3-4 times.
These are a few of my favorite yoga poses/stretches to do in the morning. These can help awaken you and generally put you in a good mood for the day.
