Battle of the Makeup Setting Sprays

Makeup setting sprays and makeup mists have been increasing in popularity over the past few years. Some claim to increase the lasting power of your makeup, others take away the look of powder to leave a more luminous finish, and others claim to be a primer mist.

Although there are tons of makeup mists out there that I haven't tried, I do have quite a few in my collection, and thought I would share my thoughts on them with you.

Makeup sprays that claim to increase the lasting power of makeup:
Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray- This is a super pricey setting spray that claims to extend the wear of makeup. I honestly have never noticed a huge difference when using this. I love the spray on the bottle, and think the product itself is good for refreshing your skin and taking away any excess powder, but I cannot attest to it making my makeup last longer. For $30, I think you can skip this and try one of the other ones I mention.
NYX Matte Setting Spray- This is the only setting spray I really dislike. I wanted something that would reduce the look of powder and keep me matte longer, so I thought this would be the obvious choice. Unfortunately, I found it to be wayy too drying. When I use it all over my face, my skin gets very tight and dry. The only time I use this is if I spray it on my beauty blender and use it only on my nose. Overall, I would not recommend this one.
Wet n Wild Photo focus setting spray- This is the cheapest setting spray I have tried. For $5, I think this is great. It reminds me of the Urban Decay setting spray without the same scent. Like the urban decay one, I don't know if I can say this actually makes my makeup last longer, but it makes my skin feel very good, and does not mess with my foundation. Since this setting spray is only $5, I recommend it to everyone!

Priming Mists:
NYX First Base Priming Spray- I really like this product. For starters, the spray is really good. I use this before and after applying makeup. Although I am not sure how much longer it makes my makeup last, I find it helps hydrate my face and make makeup application smoother. My skin looks glowy and hydrated when I use this! Another bonus is it's price... around $8 at Ulta.com and you can always get it on sale!
Smashbox Photo Finish Priming Water- I love this priming water. I find it preforms similar to the NYX first base priming spray, but it smells much better, and has a more gentle mist. Because of the price tag, I don't repurchase this often, but if you are willing to splurge, I definitely recommend.

Refreshing Makeup Sprays:
Mac Fix+- The Mac Fix+ is a cult favorite. Everyone uses it for setting their makeup, and intensifying pigments/shadows. Personally, I think the spray is a little more intense that I would like, and it messes with my makeup when using it over a full face of foundation. I prefer using this on no makeup days. I do think that Fix+ is the only thing that is very effective for wetting eyeshadows and applying pigment. For that reason, I always keep a bottle on hand. You can buy this from www.maccosmetics.com for $21.
Pixi Milky Hydrating Mist- This is my favorite spray I have ever tried. I love it for priming my face before makeup, refreshing my face throughout the day, or even right before I run out the door with a bare face. When I use this without makeup, my skin looks more even and glowy. The mist is very fine, but you can feel it on your face. It sprays evenly, and you only need 2-3 sprays to cover your face. I buy this from target.com for $15, which is more pricy that anything at the drugstore, but I still think it is worth it.

Let me know what your thoughts on makeup setting sprays are and the ones you recommend! I am always down to test out new sprays!

Thank you so much for reading and have an amazing weekend!

XOXO,
Jordan
