I have super super dry skin and here are some tips on how to avoid dry skin.
- Have a simple skincare routine.
During Winter, I find that my skin reacts better when I use fewer products. I recommend using an exfoliator made for dry skin, and a heavy cream. My favorite is Cetaphil. Its a little heavy, but it sinks in pretty quickly so it doesn’t feel gross on your face. The exfoliator I use is the épicé purifying exfoliant. This is harsh, but doesn’t upset my skin. Both day and night I wash my face with the First Aid Beauty face cleanser. Its super gentil, but does an excellent job at removing makeup, and hydrating the skin.
- Moisturize your body as soon as you get out of the shower.
When you get out of the shower, your pores are open, so it will absorb the moisturizer you put on it. My favorite is the Vaseline intensive care advanced repair fragrance free cream. This stuff claims to repair your skin in 5 days and I completely agree! Its moisturizing, but definitely not thick.
- Use fragrance free creams and avoid lotions
Creams with fragrance irritate your skin, and lotions aren’t good for you. Sorry to break it to you, but BBW lotions aren’t doing anything for your skin. There is more of the fragrance than the moisturants. I recommend going to your local drugstore and picking up a fragrance free moisturizer for virtually nothing!
- Avoid taking long, hot showers
Hot water drys your skin out, while warm (or cold!) water adds moisture. Taking a long, steaming hot shower is the worst thing you could do to your skin!
- Drink lots of water!
Everyone says this, but its really true. The more water you drink, the more hydrated your skin is.
There IS a difference between dry and dehydrated skin, so drinking water won’t cure your dry patches, but it will help with hydration.

I hope this helps you, because I use all of these tips!
